5 alternative uses for St Paul’s Cathedral
The anti-capitalist protesters have managed to shut down St Paul’s Cathedral.
An unprecedented move, have they successfully drawn attention to the evils of capitalism?
BOB wants to celebrate this beautiful building which hasn’t been closed to vistors since the middle of WW2.
However, if the protesters decide if they can’t beat ‘em they may as well join the capitalist masses, here are a few suggestions for what they could house within the walls of St Paul's:
1. Turn it into a nightclub
Many anti-capitalist protesters are planning to occupy the cathedral until Christmas. One of the facets of not working for ‘The Man’ is that there isn’t much that they can do which doesn’t involve earning and spending money. However, St Paul’s has some of the best acoustics in London town, so why not turn into a cutting edge protest-discoteque like one of these nightclubs for sale. But remember, if your name’s Gordon Gekko then you’re not coming in.
2. Create the world’s largest hair salon
If there’s one thing Brits will spend their hard-earned capitalist coffers on, it’s their hair. The protesters have not had the best washing facilities for the last few weeks and turning St Paul’s into a huge hairdressing salon is the perfect way to make themselves feel and look better. And of course, like taxing the rich, they can charge those with city jobs double for a cut and blow dry....or is that against their ethics?
3. Turn it into a museum
Picture the scene: thousands walk around the desecrated graves of religious leaders, stumble over piles of used bank notes and gaze in wonder at the tomb of the Unknown Banker. St Paul’s Cathedral almost defines British history itself, and the debris left by the campaigners will soon become historical artifact. Or, if that hasn't convinced anyone, then perhaps move this museum for sale from Toledo in Spain to the UK? Perhaps a museum devoted to the history of oil might be a little messy in all senses of the word.
4. Use it as a much-needed care home
On a semi-serious note, there are currently 225 care homes listed for sale on BusinessForSale.com in the UK. Caring for others is a business venture that will appeal to those who think that we should be doing more for our fellow man rather than just earning the big bucks for our own selfish means. But let’s not inform the protesters that caring for the elderly and infirm is also an incredibly lucrative way to make a living.
5. Turn it into a cattery and kennels
Finally, perhaps look beyond capitalism and the problems of our fellow man. Even though the human race is locked in a war of rich versus poor, the protesters can do their bit for the environment by using St Paul’s to house all of the innocent cats, dogs and other pets owned by those protesting, or those on lower incomes. Buying and running a cattery and kennels is a caring, sharing and necessary business opportunity.
And let’s face it, no one should be expected to occupy St Paul’s AND empty the litter tray every night.
