We Made a Movie

Crew_Shot.jpgDynamis - the people behind BOB and other great websites including BusinessesForSale.com, FranchiseSales.com and Ubops.com - has made a film.

We did this because we realised that trying to explain what we did using text in the 'About Us' section of the website was, frankly, too dull.

We live in world dominated by the visual medium - not text. We think think this the way forward for lots of companies - a short film that explains what they do.

So see what Dynamis does, click the 'Play' button under 'Dynamis The Movie' on the homepage:

Take Five Quotes

George_Bernard_Shaw.jpgGeorge Bernard Shaw (pictured left)
People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.

Albert Einstein
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Nelson A. Rockefeller
Wherever we look upon this earth, the opportunities take shape within the problems.

Henry D. Thoreau
You cannot dream yourself into a character: you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

Michael Althsuler
The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot.

Indian Energy Facts

Following on from the Anil Ambani profile, here are some facts about India's energy industry:

-Almost half of India’s electricity is used illegally, for free.
-Slum-dwelling Indians disconnect overhead power lines and connect them to their homes via metal wires.
-Yet the middle-classes and, most shockingly, industrial enterprises also cheat the electricity companies by tampering with meters.
-Most of the state-run electricity companies are close to bankruptcy.
-Power cuts caused by demand exceeding supply are a regular occurrence in the major cities.
-If India’s runaway economic growth of 8% continues, generating capacity will have to grow sevenfold in the next decade.
-Reliance Energy (Ambrani's company) nevertheless still had revenues of $1bn in 2005.

Anil Ambani

Anil20ambani.jpgIf anyone personifies how quickly the emerging economies of Asia are catching up with the West, it is Anil Ambani.

His company, Reliance Energy, is now worth $18.1bn, making it the biggest private company in India, second only to state-owned oil enterprise ONGC.

Ambani is responsible for many of the initiatives that have brought Indian finance into the 21st century. He was the first to offer international public offerings of global receipts, convertibles and bonds, and directed Reliance’s attempts to raise billions from the international financial markets. As a result, over 3.1 million people are investors in the group.

How I Started My Business

Gavin20Wheeldon20-20applied20LS.jpgBusinessInaCan.com interviewed HSBC start up award winner Gavin Wheeldon about his translation business. His clients include Primark, Nike, Eriksson, the United Nations and Robbie Williams.

Initially a one-man operation, Applied Language Solutions now has 55 staff, translates into 140 languages, and has offices in California, Paris, Barcelona, Sofia and Guatemala City.

Interviewer: You started your translation business in your bedroom. Now you provide translation services for Robbie Williams. How does that feel?

Gavin: Pretty good; it’s not bad going in less than three years.

Interviewer: What made you go into this industry?

Gavin: I come from a technology background and starting working with a language company, so that gave me a view of the translation industry as a whole. I found it so archaic – I couldn’t believe it. I thought, well, if you put some solid processes in, get a decent sales structure and use technology properly, then this market is ripe for a new type of company. We were really bringing technology to an academic-based industry.

www.thenewrevolutionaries

From The Guardian After YouTube and MySpace, what next? As the internet continues to change at a breathtaking pace, David Smith goes to Silicon Valley to meet the architects of the next web explosion

The people spilling out of Ritual Coffee Roasters on to the San Francisco sidewalk scent more than coffee beans. Inside there are twenty and thirtysomethings, most of them male, working intently at laptops and harnessing the power of the internet. They are not merely logging on to look at MySpace or YouTube or The Next Big Thing. They plan to be The Next Big Thing.
