BusinessWeek reports on entrepreneurial activity in the U.S.
The rate of business creation in the U.S. held steady at 290 adults out of every 100,000 creating new businesses each month between 2005 and 2006, suggesting that nearly 465,000 people created new businesses on average per month.
That's according to the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity, an annual study that measures business startup activity for the entire U.S. adult population at the individual owner level.

Businessweek Mulls Launch of "Business YouTube"
From Media Week: John Byrne, BusinessWeek's executive editor and the acting editor-in-chief for Businessweek.com, said that company is looking to create a "business YouTube" essentially an online video hub for wannabe moguls to post short pitch videos for a new ventures or companies.
The site is also exploring the launch of an online-video-based contest that would invite anyone with a idea for a new business to submit a plan on the site with the chance to land $500,000 in venture capital funding.

Online Retailing 'Surging Ahead'
From BBC News: Online retailing in the UK has grown at its fastest rate since the dotcom bubble burst, a survey has claimed.
The amount of money spent by consumers shopping online increased by 33.4% to £10.9bn last year, retail analysts Verdict Research said.

The survey of 1,368 businesses, conducted by You Gov on behalf of Sage (UK) Limited, suggests that businesses could be risking a potential fine of £100 if they submit after the deadline, but ultimately they need more information and guidance about submitting their tax returns, including the option of submitting online.
These results suggest that a lack of awareness around online submissions is impacting the numbers currently submitting payroll year end tax returns online.

Small Businesses Save £90m Submitting Tax Returns Online
Companies are saving, but a third of UK businesses missing out on £78m of tax benefits.
Over half of UK small businesses (55 percent) estimate they are saving at least £100 each by submitting their payroll year end tax returns online.
The survey of 1,368 businesses, conducted by YouGov on behalf of Sage (UK) Limited, suggests over 900,000 of the 1.64m VAT-registered businesses in the UK are making a combined minimum saving of at least £90million* ahead of the May 19th deadline.
